The legislative session starts tomorrow (Jan 8). Several anti-choice bills have already been introduced. We want to recruit "Capitol Activists" -- people who will attend key committee hearings in a small but steady stream throughout the legislative session wearing PREVENTION NOW t-shirts and stickers from the "Prevention Now" rally that was held last year. If you don't have one from the rally, don't worry, there are plenty left!
Capitol Activists will have their first opportunity to make their presence known this week! On Wednesday, Sen. Pat Miller has chosen to hear a proposed bill that would allow pharmacists to refuse to fill certain reproductive health prescriptions. The proposed legislation, Senate Bill 3, will be considered in the Health and Provider Services committee on Wednesday, January 9, at 9am in the Senate Chambers. We need to be there and tell legislators that they should be working for PREVENTION NOW --they should be helping to protect patients' access to contraception, NOT creating roadblocks to keep them from filling their prescriptions.
So, If you would like to be a Capitol Activist and participate next Wednesday, and/or on other days in the coming weeks, please contact jen@ppin.org.
