Legislative Session
PresentersAbout 30 people attended "What’s happening at the Statehouse— Proposed legislation on reproductive health and what we should do about it" at the YWCA in Lafayette on Thursday, January 26, 2006.
The session featured guest speakers Michael McKillip, Director of Public Policy and Legislative Affairs, Planned Parenthood of Indiana, and Lindsey Mintz, Director of Government Affairs, Jewish Community Relations Council. Michael and Lindsey gave us an update on the latest developments in the Indiana General Assembly and gave suggestions for how we can advocate effectively to oppose bills that would harm women's health and freedom, and support those that would improve it.

Thanks to everyone who attended and helped make this session possible, and special thanks to Michael and Lindsey.

All Options Clergy Counseling Training Session
Group of clergyTen clergypersons completed the "All Options Clergy Counseling" training session on February 21, 2006 in Indianapolis. The trainer was Rabbi Bonnie Margulis, Director of Clergy Programming of the RCRC. Participants represented a diversity of faiths including United Church of Christ, Friends, Presbyterian, Christian (Disciples of Christ), Baptist, and Unitarian Universalist. Each participant received a manual which guided the group through various discussions, case studies and exercises, as well as providing a wealth of resources for future reference. The training also included presentations by representatives of Planned Parenthood, the Adoption Support Center, and an attorney from the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana. A tour of an abortion clinic was also offered. The event was very successful and we plan to offer more such trainings in the future as we build a network of trained clergy throughout the state who are able to offer compassionate, honest, and respectful counseling in which all options are offered and the woman is supported no matter what decision she makes. 2006 Tippecanoe County Fair!
IRCRC was at the fair from July 22-July 28, along with our partners Planned Parenthood and the Lafayette chapter of the League of Women Voters. It was a hot and dusty week, but the many volunteers were energized by the overwhelmingly positive response to the booth. We spoke with hundreds of people, many of whom signed the Get Real Indiana petition, or the letter to Senator Bayh. Many had their picture taken for the "Prayerfully Pro-Choice billboard. Over 40 new voters were registered at the League table! We are very grateful to all the volunteers and everyone who helped make the booth possible. We were delighted and proud to be working in partnership with the League and Planned Parenthood. Thanks to everyone who helped make this important "pro-faith, pro-family, pro-choice" presence possible in the community!
